Wiring Connector [VERIFIED]
Six-way wiring includes a sixth wire (typically red) that is used for a fuse block or fused battery lead. This wire will typically run to a fuse block breakaway kit, trailer interior lights or a battery charger. It can also be used for electric brakes. Six-wire configurations are commonly found on horse trailers, for example to run a fan.

The Pollak 7-Way Trailer Connector Plug with SAE approved wiring (shown at right) is a popular and rugged connector, providing plenty of wire connections for most trailer wiring needs, and is built to last. This connector has flat pins, which are typically used with trailer connections, as opposed to connectors with round pins, which are used for RVs (as shown in the product below).
Other trailer connectors come with add-on springs to provide additional strain relief to protect against wire fraying, and boots for an added measure of seal protection. These features are helpful when connectors are subjected to repeated plugging and unplugging, for example with work trailers that are attached and removed from vehicles frequently.
Shown below: A Trailer Connector from Cole Hersee, a Littelfuse Brand. This 13-way connector, with solid brass contacts to ensure proper contact and minimal voltage drop, provides wiring options for large and complex trailer systems such as RVs.
The Hopkins line of wiring adapters includes 7 RV Blade, 6 Pole Round, 5 Wire Flat and 4 Wire Flat adapters that will allow you to tow multiple trailers without the need for rewiring trailers or vehicles.

Given my background, they put me to work writing about some of the most complex electronic products Crutchfield sells: car amplifiers, digital signal processors, wiring, professional sound mixers, and PA systems.
Overview: This kit comes with sixteen Posi-Twist connectors for installing an aftermarket head unit in your vehicle. Posi-Twist connectors replace old-fashioned wire nuts and crimp caps with stronger, more reliable connections. These connectors are compatible with two 18-20 gauge wires, up to four 22 gauge wires, up to five 24 gauge wires, and up to six 26 gauge wires. Just strip your stranded wires, insert them in the caps, and then hand tighten the two caps together - the wire ends are locked between opposing cone shapes to create a dirt-, vibration-, and heat-proof housing. The connectors are also reusable.
Standard offers an ever-expanding line of connectors in more than 300 categories. All of our connectors are manufactured with high-quality materials and tested to match OE fit, form and function and perform in harsh conditions.
It is common for one of the three plastic retention tabs to break on the wiring harness case pass-through connector in GM 4L60-E, 4L65-E and 4L70-E units. This allows the connector to be pushed into the case when connecting the external harness. Not only does this require extra labor to fix, it also requires a new wiring harness. Sonnax wiring harness connector bracket 77980-01K retains the internal harness connector even though the retention tabs may be broken.

When someone mentions the word wire, they are more than likely referring to a flexible, cylindrical piece of metal that can vary in size from just a few millimeters in diameter to several centimeters. Wire can refer to either a mechanical or electrical application. An example of a mechanical wire could be a Guy-wire, but this this guide will focus on electrical wiring.
An electrical connector is a device for joining electrical circuits together using a mechanical assembly. The connection may be temporary or serve as a permanent electrical joint between two wires. There are hundreds of types of electrical connectors. Connectors may join two lengths of wire together or connect a wire to an electrical terminal.
Below area few connector types. On the far, upper left, we have an insulated splice connector to connect two wire ends together. To the right, the forked connector (a.k.a. spade, or split ring) is useful for connecting wire to screw terminals by sliding the fork into a screw terminal's socket. Screws can be partially screwed in before installing the terminal. The ring terminals in the middle are also useful for connecting wire to screw terminals. While the ring terminal provides a more reliable connection, you would need to completely remove the screw before installing the terminal. On the far, upper right we have a male spade connector (a.k.a. blade). These can slide into the female spade connector (a.k.a. double crimp) that is shown on the bottom right. Depending on the design and application, these connectors can come in different flavors like flanged fork or locking ring terminal.
The best crimper has a built-in ratchet. As the handles are squeezed together, it will ratchet and prevent the jaws from opening back up. When enough pressure has been applied, the ratchet will disengage and release the crimped part. This ensures enough pressure has been applied. This style of crimper also has a wide jaw to cover more surface area on the connector.
Depending on the size of the connector, the type of the "die" (i.e. the crimp tool's head) will be sized differently. The crimp tool below uses a different die to crimp smaller crimp pins that slide into a pin connector housing.
Manual crimping tools can achieve nearly the same results, although it requires the user be much more vigilant. This style of crimper is generally less sturdy. Attention must be given while crimping to ensure the jaws are lined up properly on the connector. Misalignment will cause a less than desirable crimp connection. Over time, wear and tear from normal usage can also cause the jaws to become separated and not close fully. Generally, squeezing it as hard as possible will be sufficient. The fancy wire stripper shown below can be used with quick disconnects. The tool can also be used to cut wire and strip wires/cables.
After the crimp is completed, the wire and connector should still hold together after trying to pull them apart with great force. If the connection can be pulled apart, the crimp was not done correctly. It is better to have the crimp fail now, versus after it has been installed in its application. Below is a military spec chart for crimped connections.
Remember, there are hundreds of types of electrical connectors out in the world. Depending on the design, the connector can be designed in a way to fit into a plastic housing. Instead of a barrel crimping down on a wire, the connector may include two crimp tabs (i.e. wings) to crimp over wire and its insulation. The additional crimp tabs for insulation provide strain relief. The crimp pin may also have a locking tab and terminal stop when the pin is inserted in a plastic housing.
First, cut and strip a piece of wire. Make sure to match the wire gauge with the crimp pin's specifications. In this case, we will use 22 AWG stranded hook-up wire to connect to the JST RCY connector as recommended by the crimp pin's datasheet. After removing the crimp pin from it's metal strip, align the wire strands to the conducting tab and the insulator to the insulator tab to check if the wire meets the crimp pin's specifications.
When ready, insert the crimped pin into its respective housing. In this case, the crimped female pin was inserted into its respective JST RCY connector housing. Make sure to match the locking tab with hole in the plastic housing.
When finished, the wire should snap into its respective housing. Below are a few crimped pins in their respective housing. On the far left, we have crimped pins used for the polarized 1x2 "Molex" connector. The two on the right with black housing is an example of crimped pins used with the standard 0.1" headers. Finally, the crimped pins in the red housing are used for the JST RCY connector.
* When installing a new pump or module we highly recommend purchasing our IPH-008 intermediate pump harness to replace the undersized factory harness. This harness runs between the driver's side wheelwell to the connector on the fuel module at the top of the tank. Access to this area (dropping the tank) is typically required to install this intermediate pump harness.
The2003+ C5 Corvette is equipped with a top-loaded fuel module which containsa Walbro vane-type fuel pump. This module has an integrated fuel pressureregulator and fuel filter. The Walbro vane pump used in this new moduleflows less fuel than the Walbro gerotor pump used in previous model C5's.Having the regulator located in the module moves the point of regulationfarther away from the fuel rail. This reduces the fuel pressure stabilityat the rail even further. Racetronix will be releasing a fuel pump upgradefor this application however removing the fuel module is a major job inthis case. The exhaust system and transaxle must be dropped in orderto remove the DS fuel tank which contains the fuel module. The module itselfis very difficult to re & re from the tank. For these reasons mostC5 owners who have this system will chose to use external devices to boostfuel pump performance. This is where the Racetronix fuel pump upgrade harnesscomes into play. The Racetronix PnP upgrade harness provides alternator-directpower for maximum pump voltage. Racetronix has documented an average 1.0-1.2Vincrease in pump supply voltage on the 2003+ C5. This equates to a 10-15%increase in pump volume. A minor increase in fuel pressure will actuallybe experienced with the installation of this harness. The harness is fully'plug & play' so it is installed without cutting into the factory wiring. The entire harness is waterproof made with the same Delphi interconnectcomponents used throughout your C5. The harness' operation is quite simple. The factory power wire which was once used to supply the fuel pump is usedto trigger a 40 amp relay which in turn supplies powerdirectly from the car's alternator with fused protection. 041b061a72
